This is a young MC and as such has a lot to work out but it shouldn’t be at the expense of the mental health of their significant others. Some spoilers to follow....I really wanted to love this one. I liked Boss and that story and for the most part liked this one too. What set my teeth on edge is the trend in this authors latest works regarding disrespect between the club girls and old ladies. It bothers me how little regard these supposedly “great” men give the women the supposedly “love”.The things that Sin allowed Vonnie to say to both him and Lyric and in front of and to the members and the blatant snowballing disrespect makes no sense to me. In his effort to be “fair” he gave the girls too much rope. He allows a club girl to dictate to him in a nasty way how displeased she is about the idea the inferred idea she’d have to earn her keep through more than just sex. She calls Lyric nasty names and makes some pretty broad inferences both one on one and in front of all the others that not only did she sleep with Sin first but she’d have him again after he grows tired of Lyric and he allowed it.That he felt Lyric was unreasonably angry and was dismissive of her suggestion enough to blatantly say to the guys “sorry the little lady got some thoughts of her own, but I’ll fix that all up so she doesn’t speak out of turn again” made ME unreasonably angry.He let Vonnie disrespect him and Lyric in front of the whole club. He let her have tantrums and interrupt the meetings with her tantrums. He let her try to stage a hostile takeover by rallying all the club girls behind their backs. In no universe, especially an MC one, would that be ok. He said she should leave but never meant to enforce it. Every single guy there said they’d rather go on the prowl for ladies over having these girls disrespect their presidents woman and live at the compound for free and he didn’t listen to them.I just see a big disassociation between Sins words and his deeds. He tries to dictate her every interaction between her and her colleagues and students at her job but she can’t suggest that the girls be respectful and clean? He’s hard in the wrong ways. Linc never saw repercussions for his disrespect and neither did Vonnie. The tone is wrong for a true HEA and a strong club. I read this book because it is a companion series to Cee Bowerman's Time Served MC/ Tenillo Guardians series. Ms Bowerman has a style of writing that is easy and flows well, with an amazing gift for dialogue. This is relevant, because the character Sin from Ares' Infidels is introduced in the first book of the series, Boss, written by Bowerman. I loved Boss, definitely a 5 star read. I downloaded this one hoping for more of the same, but was sadly disappointed.St. James writing style is just not for me, I guess. Lots of choppy simple sentences, with weird qualifications for character actions that just weren't needed or made no sense and disrupt the flow of the story. For instance, in one place in the book, the heroine is asked to write something down, she tells them she will make a list. Then she gets up and goes to the bar. The author makes a point to let people know that they keep a notebook and pen under the bar, by saying "she went to the bar because we keep a notebook and pen under the bar". It took her several sentences to write this, when she could have just said, "Lyric jumped and ran to the bar and came back with a paper and pen." Lots of little things like this throughout the book made it tiresome to read. I can usually finish a book this length in a day, it took me several, and by the time I got to the last few chapters, I just sort of skimmed it.The storyline itself was good, but the characters weren't that interesting, and parts of the plot definitely need some work. The author has a good imagination, but the poor sentence/paragraph structure and dialogue made it a chore to read. Parts of it felt forced, or that she was reaching trying to make it make sense. I don't want to give any spoilers, for those of you that feel you need to read this part of the series anyway, but I will say I was disappointed. Sin was a very intriguing character in Boss, as was most of his crew, and I couldn't wait to read more about them, but after reading this, I don't know if I can continue this half the story line. I might just have to be content with the Time Served crew.
