Ebook About
After a recent case with a treacherous client, North and Shaw are ready to go back to work building Borealis Investigations. They’re also ready to go back to dodging their feelings for each other, with neither man ready to deal with the powerful emotions the Matty Fennmore case stirred up. Everything is getting back to normal when their secretary asks for help: her girlfriend’s boss has gone missing.Shep Collins runs a halfway house for LGBTQ kids and is a prominent figure in St. Louis’s gay community. When he disappears, however, dark truths begin to emerge about Shep’s past: his string of failed relationships, a problem with disappearing money, and his work, years before, as one of the foremost proponents of conversion therapy. When Shep’s body turns up at the halfway house, the search for a missing person becomes the search for a murderer. As North and Shaw probe for answers, they find that they are not the only ones who have come looking for the truth about Shep Collins. Their investigation puts them at odds with the police who are working the same case, and in that conflict, North and Shaw find threads leading back to the West End Slasher—the serial killer who almost took Shaw’s life in an alley seven years before. As the web of an ancient conspiracy comes to light, Shaw is driven to find answers, and North faces what might be his last chance to tell Shaw how he really feels.

Book Triangulation (Borealis Investigations Book 2) Review :

This gets five stars because the author gave me the one thing I wanted most. If he had not, I would probably have dropped a star. Let’s just say there were tears involved. It’s an ugly plot – something Ashe obviously favors – involving the former director of a gay youth conversion camp who left his wife and now has a male husband – and runs an LGBT teen center in Saint Louis. Yeah, it bothers more than just me. This time the Borealis Agency’s secretary (or whatever the heck she does), Pari, drags her bosses into an investigation they think sounds bad – and of course, it turns out way worse than they expect.Throughout, Shaw and North are dealing with Shaw’s new boyfriend, a hot detective named Jadon Reck, and North’s husband, Tucker Laguerre, who, frankly, I had hoped was gone. But no. Therein lies the seductive power of Ashe’s title: North and Shaw, best friends, caught between their own inner demons and, twice-over, a third person. Relationships between two people are often deeply affected, and sometimes damaged, by the manipulations – or even merely the presence – of a third person. Triangulation. Ask anyone who’s dealt with a difficult friend, or a troublesome teenager. Or even an adorable toddler. Triangulation. The rest of it, Ashe’s amazing writing, his intense, engaging and profoundly frustrating characters, and his gift of mystery plotting, are just what I remembered from the first Borealis Investigation (Orientation). This is what I expect from Ashe, and I am so impressed by the pace and the prose and the proper editing. I also love the calculatedly juvenile banter between North and Shaw, which pops up at the worst moments, and makes you giggle when you’re supposed to be freaked out. The banter is a reminder of just how deep their relationship is.The only main characters in any mystery series more frustrating than North McKinney and Shaw Aldrich are John-Henry Somerset and Emery Hazard, from Ashe’s OTHER major series. In fact, for one surreal moment in this book, these two pairs meet at a gay brunch in Saint Louis. It was sort of brilliant, because you get to see just how similar-yet-totally-different all these guys are. Hint: Hazard and North hate each other on sight. Delicious.I guess if you wrote a detective series in which everyone was happy and lived a full life, it would just be dull. But, I know I’d sleep better.I have book three in the series, “Declination,” on my Kindle already.
Disclosure: July 2021, this review is for my second time reading this book loving it!I highly recommend this series (5 books so far, #6 coming in August 2021) for readers who enjoy:---friends to lovers, although the road is long and very, very bumpy. MCs North and Shaw are passionate, deeply flawed men who put their all into fighting with each other against others, against each other, for their friends and clients;---an overarching mystery thread with complex connections and intricacies, along with great detective work (and some luck) for client cases (and outwitting the cops is a bonus);---excellent writing and editing;---great dialogue with Shaw and North; and---a slow-burn, you-know-it's-coming, happy for the moment, but, oh my, what a cliffhanger ending when the next book is available so you don't have to wait to continue the epic love story of Shaw Aldrich and North McKinney!Must be read in order to get all of the rich, deep background; highly recommend this series. And if Shaw (and/or North) make you crazy, give them time to grow on you. I did and they're now one of my favorite M&M fictional couples. But they're not easy!
